Frequently asked questions
How do I sign a PDF with a Finnish bank ID without creating an account?
Choose your PDF on the front page of helppoallekirjoitus.fi, enter your own email and the other signers' emails, and identify with your Finnish online banking credentials or Mobiilivarmenne. The other parties receive a signing link by email. No account, registration or business ID is needed, and the signed PDF with a signature certificate is emailed to everyone.
How much does it cost to sign a document electronically in Finland?
Helppoallekirjoitus.fi costs €1.49 per signer (VAT 25.5% included; €1.19 excl. VAT), so a two-party contract costs €2.98. There is no monthly fee, no subscription, no account and no setup fee. The sender can pay for all signers at once or each signer can pay their own share.
Is an electronic signature with a Finnish bank ID legally binding?
Yes. Under Article 25 of the EU eIDAS Regulation (910/2014), an electronic signature cannot be denied legal effect solely because it is electronic. Most Finnish contracts, such as rental agreements, employment contracts, promissory notes, powers of attorney and deeds of sale for vehicles or movable property, can be signed electronically.
Which identification methods are supported?
Strong electronic identification through the Finnish Trust Network (FTN): OP, Nordea, Danske Bank, S-Pankki, Säästöpankki, POP Pankki, Aktia, Ålandsbanken and Mobiilivarmenne (mobile certificate). Every signer needs one of these Finnish identification methods.
Which documents cannot be signed electronically in Finland?
Real estate purchase deeds require a public purchase witness or the National Land Survey's electronic trading system. Wills, prenuptial agreements and continuing powers of attorney require physical witnesses. Most other everyday and business contracts can be signed electronically.
What happens to my document after signing?
The signed PDF, with a certificate page containing verified names, timestamps, a SHA-256 hash and a QR code, is emailed to all parties and deleted from the servers within 24 hours. Unfinished documents are deleted after 7 days.
